Usa: McDonald's vuole cambiare parola in dizionario inglese

(ANSA) - NEW YORK, 11 GIU - Alla McDonald's non piace la parola 'McJob', inserita da tempo nel dizionario inglese quale sinonimo di cattivo lavoro. Alcuni lobbisti del colosso degli hamburger hanno percio' avviato una 'battaglia delle parole', per convincere gli estensori del dizionario a cambiare la definizione. McJob era entrato nel lessico americano una ventina di anni fa e reso popolare dal romanzo Generation X, ed era infine entrato nell'Oxford English Dictionary.

Come al solito nella civiltà del politicamente corretto si pensa che basti cambiare nome per cambiare la realtà, e stavolta è una azienda a voler modificare il significato delle parole, per avvantaggiare se stessa. Nella nostra italietta invece, non si cambia il significato delle parole ma le parole tutte intere, percui il lavoro semi-schiavistico, dequalificato e senza sicurezze diventa un meno inquietante "lavoro a progetto".

L'armée américaine accroît son contrôle sur les "milblogs"

L'armée des Etats-Unis vient de renforcer le contrôle de la publication des "milblogs", les blogs écrits par des militaires basés en Irak. Ces nouvelles règles, mises à jour le 19 avril, demandent expressément aux soldats en poste en Irak de ne pas publier de notes sans les avoir auparavant soumises à un officier supérieur. Cette nouvelle directive vient encore renforcer le contrôle qu'entend exercer le commandement militaire envers ses soldats, à l'heure des nouvelles technologies de l'information.

The U.S. Army has ordered soldiers to stop posting to blogs or sending personal e-mail messages, without first clearing the content with a superior officer, Wired News has learned. The directive, issued April 19, is the sharpest restriction on troops' online activities since the start of the Iraq war. And it could mean the end of military blogs, observers say.

Military officials have been wrestling for years with how to handle troops who publish blogs. Officers have weighed the need for wartime discretion against the opportunities for the public to personally connect with some of the most effective advocates for the operations in Afghanistan and Iraq -- the troops themselves. The secret-keepers have generally won the argument, and the once-permissive atmosphere has slowly grown more tightly regulated. Soldier-bloggers have dropped offline as a result.

The new rules (.pdf) obtained by Wired News require a commander be consulted before every blog update.

The Mystery of the 'Nazi Holy Grail'

A mysterious golden pot discovered in a Bavarian lake in 2001 has been the focus of interest for archaeologists, art dealers -- and now the German and Swiss police. Its convoluted history involves Nazi cults, treasure hunters and modern-day profiteers.

So there it was, the legendary "Holy Grail" -- in a safe not far from the Zurich airport. Investor Svetlana K. from Kazahkstan had been prepared for almost anything on that day last March. But when she saw what had been described as "probably the most important art-historical discovery in the Western Hemisphere" in front of her, all the other superlatives used in the four-page prospectus faded into the background. "An object of such pre-eminence has probably never been introduced onto the open art market," the document stated, adding that, "Given the proper promotion, experts believe its value could reach a sum of around €1 billion" ($1.4 billion).

A veritable dream bargain seemed to be just within reach: The vessel -- made of 11 kilograms (24.3 lbs) of gold, decorated with Celtic ornaments and said to be more than 2,000 years old -- did indeed exercise an irresistible fascination on the beholder.

But the woman from Kazakhstan had been warned that there was one hitch: She had to snap up the bargain quickly. After all, an investment opportunity like this doesn't come along every day, she was told. That made sense to Svetlana K. and her business partner Vladimir T., and a short time later they transfered the equivalent of €1.1 million ($1.5 million) to Switzerland via a Moscow bank, in exchange for a share of the potential earnings from the marketing of the golden pot.

The Swiss million-dollar deal represents the most recent climax in an adventure story that began with the discovery of the cauldron in the Chiemsee, a lake in Bavaria, in 2001. From the very beginning the artifact has been accompanied by an aura of mystery. Whether it involved occult Nazi groups, gloomy Celtic rituals or even black magic intrigues -- the golden pot could always be made to somehow fit into the story. There were even rumors that the Bavarian state government was holding back secret analyses of the heathen pot -- "presumably in response to pressure from the Catholic Church." Others claimed that coded messages lay concealed inside the vessel's golden reliefs.

The only reliable truth about the origin and use of the cauldron is that no one knows anything definite about it. But what is certain is that another story lurks behind the mysticism and magic. And that story is set in the rough demi-monde of dubious art dealers and shady jugglers of capital.

The Bavarian Finance Ministry is involved in the saga, as is 43-year-old professional treasure hunter Jens E. -- a man who is considered a big shot in his milieu. As early as 1996, he registered a company for the trading and procurement of excavation findings.

Interessante articolo pubblicato oggi dal giornale ebraico Haaretz di cui vi diamo solo un accenno sufficiente per comprendere quanto basta.

A woman stands in the forest, shivering from the cold. She has just been raped by Russian soldiers and has been separated from her baby son, who may be dead by now. It is January 1945. She is German, married to a German farmer, surrounded by hundreds of thousands of other uprooted Germans. The Soviet forces are advancing toward Berlin and forcing millions of Germans who had settled in the eastern territories of the Third Reich to proceed in long columns southwest, back to their homeland. A few hundred kilometers to the south, her compatriots are herding prisoners at Auschwitz on a death march.

Some see this woman as the embodiment of German suffering in World War II - which only became a legitimate subject of discussion in Germany in the past decade or so, and is sometimes even likened to Jewish suffering in the Holocaust. But her son, Hans-Ulrich Treichel, who decades later would uncover the decisive influence this moment in the Polish forest had on his childhood and his family, does not agree with the comparison.

"While I can compare one person's suffering with another's - both may have the same fear and pain - I cannot compare German suffering in World War II with Jewish suffering. The German nation brought this upon itself," he says.

Twin pop stars with angelic looks are new face of racism
America's white supremacist movement has an angelic new face: twin teenage pop stars whose songs preach messages of racial hatred.

Prussian Blue, a "white power" band now recording its second album, is described as a sinister version of the Olsen Twins, the squeaky clean child actresses of the 1990s. It is attracting more and more fans among young white nationalists.

Lamb and Lynx Gaede, blonde, blue-eyed 13-year-olds from Bakersfield, California, have been entertaining all-white crowds with their music since the age of nine. Lamb plays the guitar and Lynx the violin.

Their songs have titles such as Sacrifice, a tribute to Hitler's deputy, Rudolf Hess, that praises him as a "man of peace who wouldn't give up".

Performing for such groups as the neo-Nazi National Alliance at Holocaust-denial events and festivals entitled Folk the System, the girls execute Sieg Heil salutes while belting out lyrics such as "Strike force! White survival. Strike force! Yeah."

"We are proud of being white," Lynx told ABC News. "We want our people to stay white…we don't want to just be, you know, a big muddle. We just want to preserve our race."

The twins have such a high profile among white supremacists that David Duke, the former Ku Klux Klan leader and presidential candidate, uses them to attract support.

Critics have condemned the twins' message and say that they have been brainwashed by their mother.

"It breaks my heart to see those girls spewing out that kind of garbage," said Ted Shaw, the president of the National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People's Legal Defence Fund.

The twins' act was recently withdrawn from the Kern County fair because of "security concerns". Their mother, April, 38, a former member of the National Alliance, told the Bakersfield Californian that her daughters were upset. They "simply want to perform their songs: songs about Vikings and German history", she said.

Miss Gaede has brought her daughters up on racist beliefs using textbooks from the 1950s. She is separated from their father, who is said to have similar views and has a swastika on his belt buckle.

Prussian Blue, under contract to the white supremacist label Resistance Records, is one of a number of extremist pop bands, such as Blue-Eyed Devils and Angry Aryans.

The twins' first album featured songs called Road to Valhalla and Aryan Man, Awake. They depict a world "where freedom exists for only those with darker skin" and encourage the Aryan man to awake and "turn that fear to hate".

The twins recently came under fire for stipulating that money they donated to the victims of Hurricane Katrina should go to whites only. In a recent interview with the magazine Viceland, they were asked what was the "most important social issue facing the white race right now". They replied: "Not having enough white babies born to replace ourselves and generally not having good quality white people being born."

Una tupida red de 32 cámaras de seguridad rodea la vivienda del escritor que teorizó un estado policial que controlaba las acciones de todos sus ciudadanos. Así lo publica hoy el sitio web thisislondon. co.uk que ha contabilizado al menos cuatro cámaras que vigilan directamente las inmediaciones de la casa, y otras 28 que registran lo que ocurre en las calles aledañas, en un radio de menos de 200 metros.Según un estudio citado por el sitio web, Inglaterra cuenta con la impresionante cifra de 4,2 millones de cámaras de seguridad, una por cada 14 personas residentes en el reino. Esta cantidad de 'vigilantes ocultos' hace que un ciudadano sea grabado alrededor de unas 300 veces por día en las ciudades. Una realización hasta demasiado fiel de la pesadilla creada por Orwell en los años cuarenta en un apartamento de la cuarta planta de un edificio de Canonbury Square, en Islington, en el norte de Londres. El mismo edificio que hoy está rodeado por cámaras de circuito cerrado. Hay dos que vigilan las ventanas de la parte de atrás. Tampoco el pub preferido de Orwell, the Compton Arms, se ha librado de las cámaras. Una registra los movimientos en el aparcamiento reservado a los clientes, por donde podría entrar hoy Orwell, de seguir con vida. Y en un radio de menos de 200 metros de la casa del escritor se han contabilizado otras 28 cámaras. Un entero barrio bajo control.

Oggi non esistono totalitarismi in occidente, poichè c'è un'unico totalitarismo occidentale. Il mondo precognizzato da Orwell si fa sempre più realtà e non c'è bisogno di poliziotti speciali con oscure divise, basta un satellite che nessuno vede, un obbiettivo, un'antenna. Intanto il sorridente telespettatore e telespettato (o espettorato), segue l'avvincente saga della "violazione della privacy": udite udite, leggi speciali per la tutela dei propri dati personali, della propria vita privata, carcere e sedia elettrica per chi fa video con il telefonino, clausole nei contratti ecc...e tutti soddisfati di come il Big Brother stesso ci parli paradossalmente di "Privacy"...Questa parolina magica che è entrata nel vocabolario comune dell'uomo-massa, un'altra parola che ripete robotizzato, come un Golem teleguidato dal Big-Low, per non alzare lo sguardo e vedere quella telecamera....a cui ogni tanto non sarebbe male rivolgere qualche gesto Gentile, come per...indicare...quale uso dovrebbero fare delle loro camere: almeno questa soffisfazione personale non ce la può togliere nessuno!

Il problema tedesco per il Der Spiegel è una piccola città tedesca che ha ancora quale cittadino onorario Adolf Hitler. Non vorremmo essere nei panni di questi abitanti che sicuramente da sessant'anni soffrono d'insonnia per questa macchia sulla loro ridente e florida cittadina.

Irish bishops say Israel is unjust

A group of Irish Roman Catholic bishops has called into question Ireland's commercial ties with Israel, and described travel restrictions on Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank as an "injustice".

The auxiliary Bishop of Dublin said on Tuesday that Israel has made the Gaza Strip "little more than a large prison" for Palestinians.

"Where there is evidence of systematic abuse of human rights on a large scale, as in the Occupied Territories, there are questions that must be asked concerning the appropriateness of maintaining close business, cultural and commercial links with Israel," Raymond Field said.

Un soldado que admitió haber violado y matado a una niña de 14 años y a tres miembros de su familia en Irak el año pasado ha sido condenadoa cien años de cárcel por un tribunal militar en la base de Fort Campbell (California). Fuentes militares dijeron que en virtud de un acuerdo extrajudicial el sargento Paul Cortez, de 24 años, podrá pedir la libertad condicional una vez que haya cumplido un mínimo de diez años de confinamiento en un establecimiento militar.

US soldier jailed for Iraq murder

A US soldier has been sentenced to 100 years in prison for the gang rape of a 14-year-old Iraqi girl and the killing of her and her family.

Sgt Paul Cortez admitted four murders, rape and conspiracy to rape. His plea meant he avoided the death penalty.

He received a dishonourable discharge and will be eligible to seek parole in 10 years.

In November, Specialist James Barker, 24, admitted rape and murder over the killings and was jailed for 90 years.
